About agrochemicals

Agrochemicals and their impact on pollinators

The plant/pollinator relationship is very old and mutually beneficial. Plants benefit from pollinators for reproduction and pollinators benefit from plants for food. It is a balance that, if is negatively affected, can cause damage to both populations.

The most widely used production systems do not take into account the preservation of natural cycles. We can see how the growth of cities and the expansion of crop areas reduce the quantity and quality of flowers, which in turn affects the animals that feed on their nectar.

The problem is compounded by the use of agrochemicals, such as pesticides and herbicides. These products are toxic to all living things and contaminate the land and water.

The importance of sustainable agriculture

Nature has an unlimited capacity to produce a wide variety of healthy and nutritious food without the need for agrochemicals. It is possible to create food systems that respect natural cycles and the balance between species. Sustainable agriculture does not use agrochemicals, and instead relies on natural practices to control pests and weeds. Sustainable agriculture has many benefits, including:

  • Protects the health of pollinators and other animals
  • Preserves soil and water quality
  • Reduces pollution
  • Improves biodiversity
